Dear Aggies:
It is with a heavy heart that I share the following news with you again. Effective Sunday, November 1, 2026, the availability of writing conferences with students will be limited due to a funding issue that affects my team's ability to serve you. Until this issue is resolved, all appointments must be scheduled through email at uwc@ncat.edu. In your email, please provide the date and time you are available for a one-hour conference and identify the project you are working on.
Faculty, please email me at uwc@ncat.edu regarding any University Writing Center requirements for your final projects.
The University Writing Center's mission is to provide high-quality supplemental writing assistance to undergraduate and graduate students at N.C. A&T State University. Thus, I deeply apologize for this inconvenience.
I sincerely hope this issue is resolved soon, so students can receive the assistance they need and deserve from writing consultants who are committed to helping them develop the critical thinking, reading, and writing skills necessary to meet expectations at N.C. A&T and beyond. The University Writing Center will be closed on November 5. We are co-hosting book talks with Margot Lee Shetterly the author of Hidden Figures, the #1 New York Times bestselling book, and with Aran Shetterly, the author of Morningside. This event will take place in Harrison Auditorium on November 5 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The University Writing Center will be closed on November 17. We are co-hosting the Department of English's Fall 2026 Research Symposium and FYC Zine Fest. This event will take place in 385 Student Center.

Graduate Student Writing Support: All graduate students should request a writing conference with professional writing consultants (see bios on schedule). The total appointment time can be one or two hours per week, and a single appointment can last two hours.
Group Conferences: All members of a group must schedule an appointment with the same writing consultant on the same day. Call the UWC for assistance scheduling group appointments.
Writing Assistance
One of our primary objectives is to help you meet the rigor of N.C. A&T State University's writing requirements and thus improve how you communicate in academic and professional settings. We promote student success on this platform through in-person and virtual appointments.
We can assist you at any stage of your writing process with concepts such as writer's block, organization, development, thesis, hypothesis, audience awareness, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation. We will assist you with a wide range of documents (course assignments, personal statements for scholarships and applications, resumes, cover letters, and more). We will also assist you with your AI-generated texts and teach you how to responsibly use GAI tools.
We cannot edit your work, however, because we believe that writing is a way of learning and that writing for you is unethical since you will misrepresent yourself as a writer if we write for you. Our goals is to teach you how to maintain final authority over your writing.
Register for an Account or Schedule an Appointment
The UWC uses an electronic system called WCOnline to schedule appointments and host all online sessions. If this is your first time accessing WCOnline, register for an account and then schedule an appointment with a writing consultant. If you have already registered for an account, schedule an appointment with a writing consultant. Log in with your institutional username and password. These are the same credentials you use for other institutional services.
Scheduling Protocol
To promote learning and to promote writing as a process, we do not meet with students on the day their assignments are due. Equally important, you need time to critically think about our feedback and revise accordingly, so you can produce a stronger product for your professor or another audience. Thus, we will meet with you at least 48 hours (2 days) before your work is due. Saturday is not included in these hours. Your appointment will be deleted if it does not adhere to our scheduling protocol. Upload your materials when you schedule your appointment, so we can prepare a meaningful conference for you. Undergraduates may schedule two thirty-minute appointments or one 60-minute appointment per week. We recommend recurring 60-minute appointments.
All students are encouraged to schedule weekly appointments.
Scheduling Details
If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, call us at (336) 285-3531 at least 2 hours in advance of the appointment.
- If you need to change your session from in-person to virtual, call us at (336) 285-3531 at least 1 hours in advance of the appointment.
- If you are 10 minutes late for your appointment, your appointment will be cancelled. If you are running late, call us at (336) 285-3531, so we can reserve your space. If you are experiencing technology issues, call us so we can reschedule your appointment.
- If you meet with a consultant less than 20 minutes for a 30-minute appointment, your appointment will be canceled.
- If you meet with a consultant less than 50 minutes for a 60-minute appointment, your appointment will be canceled.

Please reframe from taking pictures (screenshots) of writing consultants and recording them without their written consent. If you need evidence of your visit to the writing center, please have a verbal conversation with your consultant or email the Director, Dr. Shirley E. Faulkner-Springfield at sespringfield@ncat.edu. All students will receive a Client Report that they can share with their professors.
